Sia - Chandelier Analysis

In Sia's Music Video 'Chandelier', both types of lighting (Artificial and Natural) are used. To make the video give off a mysterious vibe, the lighting is dark and dim so it is hard for the audience to decode everything in the background of a shot which limits their vision and it means they are forced to rely on their imagination as well.

The Mise-En-Scene is very idiosyncratic and unconventional. The use of de coloured clothing the girl is wearing, the platinum short wig, the creepy paintings and drawings on the wall, and even the vintage looking dirty walls. The choreography is contemporary postmodern dance. It seems very unusual however every move has a meaning and it describes the feeling of the person. The person who is singing the song is not in the music video at all , it is a very simple music video of the dancer dancing around the whole house and using the use of space as much as she can. The movements are very surreal. There are many long and wide shots used to show the surroundings and the full movements of the dancer. There were also some close ups and mid shots to show the facial expressions of the dancer which were again very surreal. The whole music video is also very abstract and it clearly differs from many other music videos. During the chorus the dance movements were more lively and during the verses they were a lot more slower and less jumpy. There was match on action when the girl walked through the door and then we saw her from a shoulders view to show that she entered a different view which helped the audience to not get confused.
