Filming Induction

In today's lesson we were introduced to how to use Canon DSLR cameras when filming our music video next year. We learnt about how one of the significant settings you need to change before filming is to make sure the recording size is 1080p 25fps. This is the highest level on these cameras and we have to use it as it is HD.

There is also the exposure control and we can play around with the shutter speed, aperture and ISO. If the shutter speed is low the lighting would be dark as the movement of the shutter would be slow. This is why the shutter should be on 50 as for filming that is an appropriate setting.

The aperture is what we should experiment with. When the aperture is bigger more light would come in which means depending on the theme or lighting of your music video we can change the aperture and increase or decrease the lighting.

ISO is about light sensitivity and we can change the setting between 100-1600.

The third area is to do with colour. Neutral is when there is no filter and we don't want that as we want it to be completely neutral and clean however it can be changed.

Auto White Balance should be on Auto mode because we don't want it to be white washed where there is no definition.

For the focus, the mode needs to be on MF because that is the best mode for filming, because you can change the focus.

Quick Menu is to get back to the menu and change any of the settings. Also the fact that these cameras are touch screen makes everything much less time consuming and easy to use and understand.
